Personality
He looks intimidating, but the Bull Terrier is actually a friendly, easy-going and sometimes clownish breed. He loves affection and attention and makes a good family companion. He requires lots of exercise.
History
The Bull Terrier originated in England in the 1800s and was bred for bull baiting and dog fighting. This distinctive-looking dog, which initially came in a variety of colours and sizes, is said to be a cross between the traditional Bulldog and the now-extinct White English Terrier. After blood sports were banned, breeders focused more on the dog’s temperament and appearance. James Hinks was instrumental in developing the breed as we know it today – his pure white dogs were also known as “White Cavaliers” and were popular as both show dogs and pets. In the early 20th century, these dogs were crossed with brindle Staffordshires to produce the Coloured Bull Terrier, which came to be recognized as a separate breed.
